CRIF, debt enforcement and creditworthiness: what your file really says about you

A single debt enforcement record can damage your financial reputation. Discover how Milenia, a specialist in personal loans, helps you regain sound creditworthiness and a new sense of freedom.

Are you considered a bad payer in Switzerland ?

In Switzerland, your payment behaviour affects far more than your finances : it can impact your credit applications, your housing rentals and sometimes even your career.

But how can you know whether you are seen as a “bad payer” ? And above all, how can you improve your situation ?

CRIF : the creditworthiness register in Switzerland

CRIF is a national database that gathers information on the creditworthiness of people living in Switzerland. Whether you are an excellent payer or a bad payer, your name may appear there.

Banks, property management agencies and companies may consult this database before entering into a contract with you. In other words, your CRIF score plays a key role in many everyday financial decisions.

How does the CRIF score work?

CRIF assigns each person a score ranging from 200 to 600 points, together with a colour code similar to a traffic light:

  • Green : you are considered creditworthy
  • Yellow : your payment history shows some irregularities
  • Red : you are considered not creditworthy

In addition to reminders and debt enforcement proceedings, CRIF also takes certain internal factors into account: for example, frequent changes of address may negatively affect your score, as they are seen as a sign of instability.

How long does your data remain recorded?

Data recorded by CRIF may remain visible for several years, or even indefinitely if it is not updated.

Even after a debt has been paid or a debt enforcement entry has been cancelled, the register is not informed automatically.

It is therefore up to you to take the necessary steps to have outdated information corrected or deleted.

How can you find out what your CRIF file contains?

You can request a free copy of your personal data directly from the official CRIF website.

If some information is incorrect or outdated, you may request its correction by providing the necessary supporting documents, such as proof of payment or a cancellation letter.
